April 2026: first experiences with the Galaxy intraocular lens

Based on my experience with the first 80 Galaxy intraocular lens implantations, my own results fully corroborate the data presented at domestic conferences and in the international literature.

Excellent distance and intermediate visual acuity developed after the surgeries, and what is truly remarkable is that surprisingly good near vision can also be achieved, and in everyday life, patients are practically free from the need for glasses.

What is particularly favorable is that, thanks to modern optical design, the occurrence of glare and halo — phenomenons otherwise characteristic of premium intraocular lenses — is low, and when present, it is generally mild, to a degree that does not affect patients' quality of life.

Overall, early results paint a picture of a postoperative condition that offers a very strong, "all-in-one" solution not only in terms of visual acuity but also in terms of everyday usability and comfort.

December 2025: Galaxy intraocular lens now available

A new type of intraocular lens is now available in Hungary, and thus among the first to be used at Erzsébet Fürdő Medical in Miskolc, which can be used during cataract surgery and refractive lens replacement surgery.

Intraocular lenses are constantly being developed to achieve increasingly perfect post-operative vision. Following the well-deserved reputation of extended focus and trifocal intraocular lenses, which have been used in Hungary since 2014, an intraocular lens with completely new properties appeared in 2025.

Rayner's Galaxy intraocular lens was developed using artificial intelligence with the aim of achieving better quality vision and independence from glasses than before. A simulator on galaxyiol.com/vision-simulator demonstrates the results that can be achieved with different types of intraocular lenses.

Advantages of Galaxy intraocular lenses:

  • excellent visual acuity at a distance and at intermediate distances, such as when looking at a monitor
  • excellent visual acuity at close range, equivalent to reading glasses with a power of approximately 3 diopters
  • no or minimal occurrence of disturbing light phenomena (light scattering, halos, and glare) even in low light conditions and when driving at night

Who are Galaxy intraocular lenses recommended for?

  • for patients preparing for cataract surgery who want to see clearly at a distance after the procedure, while also being able to use their phone and computer and read without glasses.
  • people over the age of 50-55 who want to see well without their high-prescription distance and reading glasses, and are therefore considering surgery
